Review:

This is my first Lisa Gardner book. I have seen her books everywhere- from bookstores, to drug stores, to waiting in the grocery shop line. Yet I have not picked up any of her books. Why you might ask? Honestly, there's no good reason. The stories always sounded interesting and I do love a good murder mystery.
Therefore, I am happy I finally got to read one from the good people at NetGalley.

Gardner's Detective D.D. Warden series is fun, energizing and good mystery. I jumped in at book six, and didn't feel too far behind. In fact, I'm so curious about D.D. before book six, I will probably get the previous five books once I'm done typing this.
D.D., new mother and detective in the Boston Police Department, is just back from maternity leave. One case she is given because it falls in her jurisdiction. But the second case if far more interesting. At least, at first. She meets a woman named Charlie, who is convinced she is going to be murdered on January 21st. Her two best friends from high school, many years ago, have been murdered on the same day one and two years ago. And now it's her turn. Is Charlie crazy? What is she hiding?
D.D. must uncover the facts fast as time ticks down. If Charlie is right, she only has a couple of days to live.

The book is fast paced and interesting. I like D.D. Warden. She's smart with a little edge to her.
Honestly, I'm trying hard not to compare her to my dear Eve Dallas, from the In Death series, but it's hard not to. Both women are smart, homicide cops who stand for the dead and use their wits to solve cases. But that is where the similarities end. D.D. is far more accessible, softer, living with her boyfriend and trying to take are of her son. She has a sharp sense of humor but not as many demons as Dallas.
And that's why I like her. I can relate to her more, right now, living in this world.
You want her to figure it out. You are on her side. She could be your friend you met in the bar in Back Bay.
You know, a really kick ass friend.
The cases don't seem to connect at first, and I'm not going to tell you if they eventually do. But I can say there were so many different turns, I wasn't sure what was going on. I totally thought I knew about 30% into the book. I thought that again about half way. Again, at three quarters. In the end, I didn't really know what was going on. Gardner did a great job at keeping the mystery and suspense going.

So if you see this Lisa Gardner book while you're out and about. Pick it up. D.D. and her team awaits.

Rating 7 Pretty Cool, Would Recommend
