Review:

Mermaids, mermaids, mermaids. First there were vampires, werewolves and angels. Now Mermaids. But I'm going to tell you a secret. I'm really excited about this!
One of my favorite stories is The Little Mermaid, Disney and Hans Christian Andersen versions both. Since I was little, I was fascinated by them. And I'm happy to admit that every time I see a fiction book about mermaids, I'm happy to pick it up and start reading, trying to recapture the magic and romance from the original mermaid story.

Many have disappointed, but I was very pleasantly surprised by Of Poseidon. The pacing is great, the story flows well and there are lots of revelations and twists that change the course of the story just enough to keep me interested.

Emma is vacationing on the beach when she meets Galen and while he is drawn to her, he's not sure why. She's not like him in some ways but she seems familiar. And this drives him to learn more about her. And what he finds out will change everything. Her world, his world and everything in the sea.

A fresh take on the mermaid tale, I loved Emma's spirit and strength. She's not wimpy, whiny or too immature. She's a teenager, embracing some crazy truths about herself and some mythical creatures. I was with her every step of the way. Galen is warm and patient. I was happy that he had more depth to him than a typical romantic hero type would in other stories. Rayna, Galen's sister, is fantastic. Spunky, fun and edgy, she keeps the book funny.

I guessed the ending pretty early on, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the book. Honestly, when I put it down, the only thought I had was- THAT'S IT?! How can I get book two NOW?

Cliffhanger people. And it was awesome.

Try it out. I know you may be skeptical of Mermaids and their stories, but this one I found enjoyable, fast paced and with the right touch of romance. I can't wait to see what Anna Banks does next.
Rating 9 Awesome, Like Cookies and Ice Cream

  5. This is an amazing book and I would recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy and Greek mythology. The ending is very unexpected and I love it. It's a cliffhanger that leaves me wanting more.
The beginning had me sympathizing for Emma, as I don't know what I would do if my best friend died.
For anyone reading this review, please give this book a go. You won't regret it.
