Try Me Out! Sunday Roasts by Betty Rosbottom (1)

Sunday Roasts.

In my family, Sundays did not include roasts. I come from an Italian family, and most Sundays we gathered around the table for a large plate of pasta, homemade meatballs and red wine.

However, I have found that my British hubby, every Sunday, yearns for a good ol' roast, like his mum makes.

Our friend T, knowing this tidbit, gave him this beautiful cookbook for his birthday this year.

I'm going to be honest: I don't like to cook. I've never had much luck with it, planning how everything is going to magically be ready all at the same time, unburned.

So it was with fingers crossed and a little extra gusto that I decided to make a Sunday Roast. I thought, hey, I've now hosted Thanksgiving a few times, and the house hasn't blown up. Go me. I could do a little roast right?

:)
Right.

So here's a different feature called Try Me Out about a recipe I made from one of my many beautiful and unused cookbooks. I am a very inexperienced chef so I'll be brutally honest about how "easy" any given recipe is.
I hope you enjoy the pictures and review as much as I did.

Title: Sunday Roasts: A Year's Worth of Mouthwatering Roasts

Author: Betty Rosbottom

Publisher: Chronicle Books

Publication Date: 2011

Genre: Cooking/Experiments

Recipe: Bistro Roast Chicken with Garlic, Onions and Herbs (pg 92 in my paperback edition)

Heelllloooo Chicken

Choppy Chop!

It's getting hot in here!

Hey! Not. Bad!

Homemade Gravy

Served with the onions and cloves of garlic it was cooked with. Side of mash and salad.

Overall, I think this recipe is well planned out. The chicken came out perfectly after the allotted time. I did wind up adding another Tablespoon of butter to the herb butter because I didn't think there was enough for that last part of the recipe.

Prep time says 35 minutes, but again I am a SLOW cook so it was more like 45-50 min of prep for me. I had to read everything twice!

It's a beautiful book, with a wide variety of different roast recipes.
There will definitely be more exploring this book in the future so stay tuned!
And thanks for reading!

Now, go eat something. I know you want to.

  1. I love this new feature! I hope you do some more... If I had more time, I would totally steal (I mean be inspired by) this idea to get through some of my backlogged cookbook reviews.

    1. Thanks A! Please try it out! I was thinking of doing a linky list if others were interested in participating. And it gives me an excuse to try out some fun stuff to cook. :)
