Hesketh is good with patterns, numbers, thinking in a different way. He has Asperger's Syndrome, which makes him unique. He may be the only one who can figure out why the world's children are suddenly doing violent, deadly things to the adults. When an incident hits too close to home for him, Hesketh is racing against time to see the patterns, figure out why before it's too late.
I didn't know what to expect reading this book. Psychological Thriller and Dystopian Nightmare rolled into one. I really like Hesketh's voice. His narration is unique and can be very funny in his awkward observations. He sees the world around him differently and is somewhat detached, which works really well for the story. He is on the outside, he is an observer to these horrible senseless crimes. So much fear and possible explanations are rooted in folk tales, the paranormal. Can Hesketh believe?

And then, by the end, when you have a grasp on what is going on, what this is all about, what these crazy children are after... it's so horrifying, you wish you didn't.

I can't wait to read this! The cover alone is mega-creepy. I actually didn't realize that the protagonist has Asperger's Syndrome, which makes me even more interested in reading it since I loved Jodi Picoult's House Rules. I'm hoping it doesn't take me back to the days of book-nightmares circa It. :) Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteI was so glad to see this review come across my blog feed because I've seen so many recommendations for this but all of them are super vague. I can't wait to get my hands on it- it sounds like a better twist than "Children of the Corn."
