Review:

Sophie, Declan and Anat. Three teenagers, thousands of miles away, die at the same time. Or do they? They each awake to find themselves in an industrial hospital, with a few other teenagers. No adults. No guidance. And no idea how they got there or why they are there.
Where are they?
And where is everyone?

The first half of the book is really well done. Creepy, suspenseful and full of questions, each teen wakes up to find themselves in this mysterious facility. But as time goes by, more and more questions pop up. Like where are the nurses in the hospital? And once they make it outside, where is everyone? Very eerie, with a great layer of fear and element of the unknown.

There are so many questions, plot twists and suspense, it's like a really good episode of Lost. I had a hard time putting the book down because once I was in it, I was with them. I was with the group. And I wanted to scream at them to move faster, go back, be quiet. Because something is out there, in the bushes, in the trees. Something is watching them.

I'm not sure if I really liked any of the main characters. Sophie was bland and weak. Anat was strong but had an attitude problem. Declan was the only remotely likeable person in the story, and even I didn't really warm up to him fully. There is a little bit of romance/flirting going on, but it wasn't front and center and didn't detract from the plot. I understand why it's there, but it almost didn't have to be, the beginning plot is so good and well paced.

The last part of the book moved fast, but I have to admit that the answer/conclusion wasn't as amazing as I had hoped. In fact, the fate of the three main characters didn't really sit well with me. Things kinda of work out for some, and sort of don't for others, but I had a hard time swallowing any of the conclusions, especially because the first part of the book was so promising.

Overall, an interesting read. I will be reading this author again.

Rating 7 Pretty Cool, Would Recommend

  1. That would be bad if I wasn't sure I liked any of the characters - in cases like that I would find it terribly hard to connect you know? Then that would make it hard for me to even want to continue reading.
