Welcome to Shelf Candy Saturday! Thank you to Maria at A Night's Dream of Books for hosting this weekly meme.
Whew, it's been a long week. Seriously. I'm looking forward to settling down for a bit and reading, and browsing!
And as the summer winds down, I was thinking about awesome summer books I've read. What made me love them? What made me carry them around, hoping for just two minutes of quiet reading time?
There was first love, mermaids, road trips, lots of beautiful summer stories.
This week's Shelf Candy is one of my favorite Summer series.
The Summer I Turned Pretty
It's Not Summer Without You
We'll Always Have Summer

I wasn't sure what to expect when reading this series. I've heard a lot about them, and some friends of mine really love them. But for me, contemporary YA romance can be hit or miss. I either love it, believe it, want to keep a hard copy on my shelf (eh, hem, such as Sarah Dessen's "This Lullaby") or not.
Lucky for me, this series is in the first group.
But enough about the book. (What is this? Talking about the actual words! Ha!)
Let's talk about the covers!
They scream summer to me. The use of the white, empty background. White, khaki clothes, natural looking models with minimum makeup. The beach behind them, the tall reeds of grass.
I love the fonts- the color, easy going natural letters. The one word in script, in a different light color, easy on the eyes.
I don't really think Belly looks like the model. I don't think Conrad or Jeremiah look like those models either. But I put it aside and have accepted the truth.
These covers convey the tone, idea and emotion that the books provide. Fun, romance, drama.

If you haven't read this YA series, go out now!
Trust me, your summer will be a lot more fun with them!
Love these! They are so evocative of summer and youth - full of romantic potential, possible drama, and a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree, the covers do scream summer and all that comes with it. Thanks for sharing!

Hi, and thank you so much for participating in "Shelf Candy Saturday"! Thanks as well for commenting on my posts!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, these covers definitely give me the feeling of summer, as well as of first love... I especially like the first one, "The Summer I Turned Pretty". The effect of the sun shining from the side, on the three cover models, is very nice. I'll definitely have to find out more about this series. Thanks for sharing!! : )
