Shelf Candy Saturday! (32)

Another Saturday! Another sugar high!

Welcome to Shelf Candy Saturday and thank you to Five Alarm Book Reviews for hosting!

I know what you're waiting for. Some sugar!

And maybe some debate? I know my Shelf Candy today will make people talk.

The shelf candy for today is:

Twilight by Stephanie Meyers
New Moon
Eclipse
Breaking Dawn

You've seen them everywhere!
Indie bookstores, Chain bookstores, Walmart, Target, your sister's nightstand. Your mom's nightstand! Even your dog has a copy! (Fido, give it back!)

I know, people either love it or hate it.

But you can't deny: those covers are gorgeous. (Well, three out of four ain't bad. I really dislike Breaking Dawn but felt like I had to include it in the set.)

Did you read Twilight? Love it? Hate it? A little bit of both?
And how much did the eye-catching covers play into sales?
I'm not gonna lie- I have the series (except book 4. Don't get me started.)

What do you think? On a Shelf Candy level?

Now, Tawk Amongst Yawrselves. :)

  1. I do love the Twilight covers (and the books are pretty good), but I agree with you on Breaking Dawn being the least pretty. The simplicity and the black and red are awesome, and I even own a handful of classics that were released with Twilight-esque covers.

My shelf candy is here if you'd like a look :)

    1. Hi Claire! Thanks for stopping by. Oh, I like the classics that were released like the Twilight covers. Especially the Pride & Prejudice one! :)

  2. I do love the Twilight covers! There's something simple yet elegant about them. I also like that the publishers have not felt the need to redesign them (except the ones with the actors on them). They do look pretty awesome on my shelf :)

    1. Thanks for stopping by Crystal!! I'm glad they haven't redesigned them too. I hate it when they do that! Then nothing matches! and I'm a sucker for a series to match!

  3. OMG. You have featured my ALL-TIME FAVORITE series!!! LOVE this!! I had been thinking of putting these up on a future Shelf Candy post, but hesitated because many people on the blogosphere actually HATE these books... I don't understand why. I guess that means all those millions of fans across the globe aren't bloggers... Honestly, I think it's just ridiculous the way these books are criticized!!! I not only love the plot of each one, but the covers, as well!! I do have two favorites, though -- the covers of "Twilight" and "New Moon". But as you say, it really makes sense to include them all, so as to have the complete set.

Thank you so much for making this TWIHARD'S day!!!!!!! <3

  4. I have to admit that I have not read the series and have no desire, but there is no denying that these covers are amazing. I have thought that from the moment that I saw the first one and have continued to be amazed each time one has come out.
They are a great Shelf Candy pick and it is nice to see them all posted together.
New Moon is my favorite of the covers, BTW.

    1. Stephanie, thanks for that! I know I am certainly not a fan of some books, but they have such a striking cover I just have to pick them up when I see them every time.

    1. I still think they're original, super striking and fun. I mean, they made teenagers everywhere pick up a book about vampires that sparkle. Clever.

  6. Honestly I remember when I first saw these books before I knew how big they were and I wasn't really attracted to the covers. I mean they are nice but I guess they just didn't appeal to me. Of course now that I've read the series I understand why they chose those covers and I love them haha.

  7. I feel like any reader has Twilight on their shelves. For some, they're the books that got people into reading, though mine were the Percy Jackson Series way back when. lol

I think that the covers are simple, which is hard to come by these days. I disliked Eclipse the most though. It's the simplest of them all, but it wasn't eyecatching the way the others are. Their theme with the red and black with hints of white is awesome. I wish some people tried less to make amazing covers that just fall flat.

  8. I didn't read the series...don't like the movies but agree that the covers are lovely!

  9. They really are. I probably like Breaking Dawn's Best!

  10. They are pretty. Simple and elegant. I especially like New Moon's cover. That doesn't mean I necessarily like what's inside the covers though... :)

  11. I did read them and am a little embarrased about how much I enjoyed them, especially "Breaking Dawn." I think I just read them at a crazy time in my life. :) Lastly, the Twilight series is what exposed me to the YA genre, in which I have discovered so many wonderful reads, so I am grateful for that as well. :)

  12. I love the covers for these books. They are simple and elegant and I love the black & red color scheme. I will also admit to reading and loving them all (multiple re-reads too)!

  13. They really are pretty covers. Eye catching but simple!

  14. The covers are drop dead gorgeous. Simple. Understated. Sleek. Red and white against solid black? Always a win. Book covers, evening gowns, doesn't matter.

  15. I always loved the covers. Never a huge fan of the series but I will say I love the covers.

  16. Let me be honest here, I wasn't too interested in Twilight when I read the first book, and the series originally came out. I thought it was too...frivolous...but my interest grew once the movies came along. But in terms of the covers...I love them all. Yes, Breaking Dawn is the least pretty, but even that one has its significance, really. I actually think the first book cover, is the most APT...with the forbidden fruit theme. I must say the covers match the books, and that makes me love them! :)

  17. I have a lot for reservations about Twilight books. I had a debate with some of my friends about this series of books. At the time, I didn't read the books I only watched the movies, so I kinda of found it slightly on the korny side. So, I decided to read all the books before Breaking Dawn came about. Even though, my opinion changed after I read the books, I still felt that the series were lacking a bit, but for a new author that was fantastic. So, I did re-debated with my friends. As far as the covers, I found them to be pretty good especially the first one.

  18. I have to admit that I adore Twilight's cover...even though I have no idea what they symbolize (and apparently Stephanie Meyer doesn't either.)
I admit to loving Twilight when I first read it...at age 12 (or 11). And now that I think of it, there might've been something wrong with me back then.
I liked Twilight enough to buy New Moon...17dollars down the drain. I recently donated it to the library and saw it sell for a dollar. Admittedly, I kinda missed it.

And now Fifty Shades of Grey's cover kind of remind me of Twilight's cover...except they are blue.

  19. I have to admit, I don't really see how these covers tie into the series. But I guess not all covers have to make sense. I like the cover of New Moon but I think Breaking Dawn is my fav of the four.

  20. This is one of my favorite series. These books got me into reading. Before then I didn't even look at a book. My sister told me about them and then I couldn't put them down. We both are big fans. I absolutely love them. I love all the covers too. So simple. Now I want to go and read them now.

  21. Years ago I saw these books at the book store and for some reason they just never caught my interest. I did pick them up on more than one occasion but I never bought them. Later on when they became really popular I watched the first movie and I really hated it. At that point I was turned off by the entire franchise...but I decided that I would keep an open mind and read the books since I had heard that the movies couldn't even compare to how great the books were. I have to say that I'm glad I never bought these books because in my opinion they literally were painful to read. Even though I really hate these books I can't deny the fact that they have gotten lots of people reading again...and for that reason alone I give it props for getting people to see that reading is fun and enjoyable.

  22. While it's nice to have pretty covers, all I really care about is what between the covers!
