The Flight of Gemma Hardy by Margot Livesey
Synopsis
can be found
here.

I love this cover so much and I'm not sure why.

Is it the blue and green soft tones. The use of white to highlight the girl, stuck on her stone island. The poise of the figure, ready to jump to another rock you can't see or into the water. Either way, she's on the verge of something. The grey uneven rock sloping int the blue sea or the yellow banner of the title?

It's probably all of the above. I saw this cover and was immediately drawn to it. I love the light, airy feeling- the moment before the plunge.

  1. I love this cover too. I like the simplicity of the dress, the bare feet, the insinuation of loneliness and that tough of femininity. It is a great choice. Thank you for sharing it.

  2. I actually thought this cover was just okay, but after reading your point of view and really looking at it, I like it too. It does look like she's on the verge of something, like she's at some kind of turning point or at the point of starting a new chapter of her life. It's like she's contemplating to take the plunge. Really cool. Thanks for sharing!

And thanks for stopping by my blog! :)

  3. YAY! So happy you are featuring this one! I've been wanting to read this book since the moment I heard about it. Anything based on Jane Eyre is my kind of book. The cover is lovely. And I love your comment...she is definitely on the verge of something. I love the colors and the vignetting around the edges of the photo that give it an aged look. Lovely choice!

  4. There is something very serene about this cover. The colors are great and kove the title layout. Very nice pick.

  5. I love this cover, too, and for all the reasons you mentioned. It's also mysterious, but in a good way, not in a creepy one. It does look a bit dangerous, but there's something calming about it, too. In other words, she's going to plunge into the ocean, but everything will turn out well!

OMG!!!!!!! I have just read the synopsis on Goodreads!!! This is a modern take on "Jane Eyre", which is only my FAVORITE book of all time!!! This is SO going on my TBR list!!!!!! WOOT, WOOT!!!!!

Thanks for featuring this novel!!!! : )
