Review:

Overachiever Grace Brooks is taking a hiatus on her life. She's been staying in Lucky Harbor, trying to find a job in Seattle or Portland, and doing small part time work on the side. But when handsome and single Dr. Josh Scott calls her to be his new dog walker, Grace wonders if staying in Lucky Harbor is what she's wanted all along.

This is book Six in the Lucky Harbor series, but it could totally have been a stand alone. Enough back story was given for me to feel a connection to all the characters, and not had to read the other books in the series. Grace is intelligent, patient and smart. She is wound pretty tight, with her own expectations getting in the way of her loosening up and being happy, but under it all she's a sweet girl who is looking for some "fun".

And "fun" is looking like it's Josh Scott. Josh had to grow up really fast. His parents died when he was young, leaving him to take care of his paralyzed sister, and a one night stand five years ago got him a son. Josh is always going, going, going. So Grace is a wonderful contrast to Josh. She makes him sit down and take a breath.

I like all of the characters. Lucky Harbor is filled with eccentric, fun and warm people, who even with a couple of lines made the book funny and light. Grace and Josh are full and flawed without being annoying cookie cutters. I loved Josh's sister Anna. She hasa bite and attitude that added a lot of depth to Josh's and Grace's characters. The courtship is sweet, the romance is hot and I really enjoyed reading about these people in this small town.

Everything a summer book or warm-hearted romance should be.

My first Jill Shalvis and not my last.

Rating: 8 Cookie Worthy
